Angus Foundation herd – background

Our Angus foundation herd was purchased at the Auldhouseburn dispersal sale. Duncanziemere Judge E188, son of Newcairnie Pastor, was also purchased. Although an older bull, he provided excellent genetics and served us well for the remainder of his days.

Another key bull, Idvies Jarvis Eric, son of Rawburn Rommel, was purchased from the Idvies herd for 20,000gns, having been intermediate and overall champion at Perth 2011. The Idvies herd was founded in 1959 by the Fraser family and is now the oldest established herd of Aberdeen-Angus cattle in the county of Angus. Eric was a great addition to the Balgay foundation stock and has produced fantastic off-spring. Amongst others, his son, Balgay Equador, out of the Duncanziemere Judge daughter, Auldhouseburn Estella, won his class as well and was reserve Champion at the Carlisle Show in 2015.

A third bull, Mr Motivator of Netherton, was purchased as a calf. He stood out as a particularly well muscled youngster and grew into a superb stock bull. His semen is available for purchase.

The heifers were then put to our home bred bull Balgay Elevation L108, producing easy calving, high end offspring.
