Working commercial bulls

The progeny from foundation bulls, Braveheart and Glenisla Zetor are on the farm today. Both are deceased but semen is available for purchase and export.  We've been fortunate to add to their legacy with some superb bulls over the years.  Meonhill Highland Fortress was another notable investment who left us some fine breeding stock as well as many stud bulls sold over the years. The last bull from Meonhill was sold for 8,000gns in May 2018.

Numerous home bred bulls have performed well in the sale pen, including Balgay Gorgoroth who topped the 2015 Stirling sale at 13,000gns, Balgay Gorbadoc, sold for 8,000gns at Stirling 2015, Balgay Judgemant Day, 1/2 brother to Balgay Gorbadoc, who was 3rd at RHS also sold for 8,000gns at Stirling 2015. At Stirling 2018, Balgay Khamul topped the beef Shorthorns sale as breed champion, selling for 8,000gns.

The current focus is to outcross. To achieve this, we sourced two Canadian embryos, sired by Wolf Willow Major Leroy that were put into Drumcross cows, producing Drumcross Jonah and Drumcross Lieutenant Leroy.  Whereas Braveheart was a massive bull,  Jonah and Leroy are not particularly large, but have a frame that will add thickness to the Balgay herd.  So far the results are promising.  They are fit, working bulls with good locomotion and so far have delivered easy calvers, with two crops of calves from Jonah and one from Leroy.
